FACIAL LIFTING

A facelift, also known as a Rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that lifts and tightens these facial tissues, to improve visual signs of aging in the face and neck. A facelift can involve removing excess skin and smoothing wrinkles.
It does not include raising the eyebrows or eyes, although they could be done at the same time. A facelift focuses only on the lower two thirds of the face and often on the neck. Patients perform facelifts for many different reasons. A common reason is to help disguise the signs of aging and restore youthfulness.

INTERVENTION
During a facelift, the surgeon will reposition the fat and tissue under the skin to:

Remove the excess skin that causes the "fallen jaw".

Lift and tighten the skin of the face;
Facial lifts vary depending on the desired results. Traditionally, an incision is made in the hairline near the temples, the incision is made in front of the ear, in front of and embracing the earlobe, then back at the level of the lower scalp behind the ears.
Fat and excess skin can be removed or redistributed from the face, neck, and underlying muscle and connective tissue are repositioned and tightened. If there is minimal skin loss, a "mini" facelift can be performed, this involves shorter incisions.
If a neck lift is also performed, excess skin and fat will be removed. The skin of the neck will be tightened and pulled back and forth. This is often done through an incision just below the chin.
The incisions often have soluble sutures or glue for the skin and are made in such a way as to blend with the hairline and face structure.
POST-PROCEDURE
After the operation your doctor will prescribe you pain medication. You may or may not have some pain or discomfort along with swelling and bruising, your doctor will place a bandage around your face to help minimise this.
Your doctor will give you specific instructions on how to care for the bandages and drains, and to schedule a later appointment.
Once the edema decreases in volume, you will be able to see the difference in the way you look. To the extent that the skin "feels" normal, it usually lasts a few months.
Usually, give yourself about two weeks before resuming a normal level of daily activity. For more intense activity, such as exercise, wait about four weeks.
